Non-offense turrets like heal turrent won't be covered.

Just starting info:
Unarmored = wearing no armor to wearing unenchanted iron armor
Well armored = wearing enchanted iron armor to lightly enchanted diamond armor
Heavily armored = wearing beastly diamond armor with over level 3 protection enchantments

Arrow Turret
Basic, weakest, but cheapest, auto turret. Fires arrows at targets from a medium range. Effective against most targets. Weak against heavy armor and/or fast targets.
When using arrow turrets, ensure that the space above the turret is empty. Arrows are spawned above the turret head, so don't place a block above the turret head. It would probably obstruct the arrow turret. Since the turret utilizes projectiles, basically any obstruction can potentially reduce the arrow turret's efficiency. Try to use arrow turrets in cramped corridors, or in a flat area, or place them in corners to prevent people to hiding in them to avoid other turrets.

Flame Turret
Basically an arrow turret, but fires much faster, but deals less damage, and of course, lights targets on fire. Effective against non-nether mobs and lightly-armored players. Excels at obstructing player movement with rapid knockback.
Flame turrets, like arrow turrets, spawns arrows above the turret head, so don't place a block above the turret head. It would probably obstruct the flame turret. Since the turret utilizes projectiles, basically any obstruction can potentially reduce the its efficiency. Flame turrets are very good at obstructing player movement by causing repeated knockback. This makes it very efficient for use near a nexus, or maybe at your doorstep.

Psionic Turret
A powerful turret that penetrates armor, and severely slows a player each attack. Rips 4 hearts at one go, but can't make a player go below 3 hearts. Does not target non-players. Very effective against single, heavily armored targets.
Psionic turrets don't use projectiles, and hit its target instantly, so this allows it to hit through walls, or from hidden areas, so your enemies will be delivered a nasty surprise. Psionic turrets can't kill players easily, so you might want to consider using other turrets with high damage outputs like hellfire turrets or soldier turrets

Hellfire Turret
A powerful turret that is like an arrow turret, but with a much larger range, a tripled rate of fire, plus more damage. Very effective against multiple, well armored targets. Excels at area denial due to high damage and knockback.
Hellfire turrets, like arrow turrets, spawns arrows above the turret head, so don't place a block above the turret head. It would probably obstruct the hellfire turret. Since the turret utilises projectiles, basically any obstruction can potentially reduce its efficiency. hellfire turrets are very good at obstructing player movement by causing repeated knockback, and high damage. Good for a control point within your base, like the middle of a flat room. Can be combined with psionic turret to deal a deadly combo of movement obstruction and pain.

Soldier Turret
A turret that spawns soldiers on nearby intruders. Strong against single, well armoured targets. Does not target non-players.
Nothing speaks area denial like a soldier turret. Many would gladly avoid its large range to avoid the fast and damaging soldiers. Soldier turrets can deal a lot of damage.. provided the soldier survives. The soldiers spawned will have timed lives, and have 20 hearts, along with a diamond sword with light armour. They don't respond well to too much damage, so multiple soldier turrets clustered in one area can deliver a powerful blow to unsuspecting enemies. Like the psionic turret, the soldier turret can spawn soldiers through walls, allowing you to set evil traps for intruders. Soldier turrets are very effective at area denial and are best used in enclosed areas so their victims can't run off. Soldier turrets do not work well with projectile-based turrets as the projectiles would be obstructed by the soldiers. This turret can pair well with psionic turret or heatbeam turret.

Heatbeam turret
Large hordes of enemies are never a match for heatbeam turrets. These can fry multiple enemies in a line constantly, dealing damage while they are close, and yet dealing no knockback. Although the turret doesn't use projectiles, (it uses a beam of coloured lasers to damage stuff), the attack doesn't go through walls. It does go through fences and heads though. However, its constant damage deems it only effective against well armoured targets that stay in range.
A good place to use heatbeam turrets are near psionic turrets. Since players will be severely slowed and can't escape the constant damage easily. An ideal place would be in corners, or in the middle of rooms, or in common camping spots. Or anywhere that the player can't escape. That would be fine.

Pressure Mine
Nothing like a sneaky, replaceable trap to kill people. Pressure mines look like stone plates, and when an enemy steps on it, it explodes, leaving only 1 heart for an unarmored player. These are best used in hidden spots like maybe your base is all stone, so you put a stone plate somewhere. It would blend in nicely. It may seem like a good idea to spam them in a visible place but remember: people can just go with 0 items and armour and step on them all, and your mines would be wasted. So... don't do it?

Chemical Mine
These pair well with pressure mines. While pressure mines can't kill a person directly, a chemical mine would do the trick. Poison would burn the victim's health, and a nice pressure mine would seal his fate. Basically the same mechanics as a pressure mine, but maybe blend it in with wood planks. Keep in mind that chemical mines CANNOT kill anything on their own. They merely give poison, blindness etc.
